About Evercred

Credentialing software built by a physician who lived the problem.

Evercred is built by Dr. Leah Houston, MD — emergency physician, MIT-trained entrepreneur, and the person whose own stolen credentials made it impossible to keep ignoring the broken state of healthcare credentialing. This is the company she built to fix it.

Origin story

How Evercred started.

Dr. Leah Houston practiced emergency medicine for over a decade. Like every physician, she experienced credentialing the way it's been done for 30 years — months of manual paperwork, redundant data entry, inexplicable delays, and a process that treated her professional identity as a paper file in someone else's cabinet.

Then her credentials were stolen. A hospital used her name and certifications without her permission to bill for services she never provided. The experience exposed a deeper problem: in a system where practitioners don't own their own credential data, identity theft isn't a bug. It's the architecture.

She founded HPEC, Inc as a company of practitioner sovereignty and built a decentralized-identity platform so practitioners could finally own their own credentials. In 2025, with the AI agent revolution making automated primary-source verification possible, HPEC sunset its mobile app and built Evercred: an AI-driven credentialing platform that combines practitioner data ownership with agentic verification at scale.

Evercred is the second act of a seven-year journey dedicated to solving healthcare's most stubborn administrative bottleneck. The technology has evolved into powerful AI automation; the thesis is unchanged: practitioners must own their identity, and credentialing shouldn't take 120 days.

Why practitioner-built matters

Why practitioner-built matters.

Most healthcare software is built for healthcare by people who don't work in healthcare. They optimize for the buyer's spreadsheet — the credentialing department, the IT director, the procurement committee — not for the practitioner whose career runs on the data the software is supposed to manage.

Evercred starts from the other end. It's designed for practitioners first. Organizations get a better product as a result, because the data they're verifying comes from a wallet the practitioner actually maintains — instead of a CAQH profile that 80% of practitioners submit with errors.

The model only works if the practitioner trusts us. That's a hard standard. It's also the right one.

The team

A small team. On purpose.

Evercred is intentionally lean. AI agents do the work that legacy credentialing companies hire 50-person operations teams to do. We're physician-led. We move fast. We don't sell to the procurement committee because we don't need a procurement committee to buy us.

Dr. Leah Houston, MD

Founder + CEO

Emergency physician. MIT-trained entrepreneur. Founder of HPEC, Inc (2019) and Evercred (2026). 14+ years in emergency medicine across multiple US states. Backed by 600+ physician investors.

Backed by practitioners

Backed by 600+ physicians.

Evercred has raised capital from 600+ physician investors via SEC-regulated crowdfunds — the only healthcare credentialing company we're aware of with a physician-investor base of that size. They invested their own money. They use the platform. They are, in a real sense, both customers and owners.

This matters because practitioners are the most skeptical customer in healthcare technology. A practitioner will not give credential data to a vendor they don't trust. 600+ of them already did.

HPEC, Inc

A note about the company name.

Evercred is the product. HPEC, Inc is the company. We operate the Evercred product as a DBA of HPEC, Inc (Humanitarian Physicians Empowerment Community) — the C-Corp Dr. Houston founded in 2019 to build a decentralized-identity credentialing platform. The HPEC mobile app sunset in 2025; the company's mission has continued, with Evercred as the new product direction.

If you see HPEC, Inc on a contract, an invoice, or in your bank's payment record — that's us.
